REDDING, Calif. - After a sluggish first half, the Benedictine University Mesa men's soccer team finally found their footing in a big way after the halftime break, getting three goals in the second stanza on their way to a 3-0 win over the Simpson Red Hawks for their first California Pacific Conference win ever.
The Redhawks outshot Simpson 13-6 in the first half but after 45 minutes of play had nothing to show for it. That quickly changed in the second stanza, as Bwaleso Igulu found the back of the net just two minutes in to give BenU Mesa their first lead at 1-0.
Benedictine would cap it with two goals in the 67th minute -- just thirty seconds apart -- from Aaron Alvarez and Gerves Fagan, giving a stifling BenU defense all the cushion it would need for the victory.
Luke Boudreau made three saves in net to collect his second shutout of the year for the Redhawks.
BenU Mesa is back in action on Sunday as they head to Pacific Union for an 11:00 a.m. showdown with the Pioneers.
