The Benedictine University Mesa men's and women's golf teams kicked off their season at home on Monday at the Redhawk Invitational hosted at Mesa Country Club, playing 36 holes during the day and seeing mixed results from their squads.
On the men's side, BenU Mesa finished in fourth place with a team score of 623. Leading the charge was Joe Baldeck, who held a share of the first round lead but fell into a tie for third place, shooting 2-over par for his two rounds. Behind him were freshman ZacK Holesinger and Braiden Williamson, who each shot 15-over par for 36 holes.
The women, who finished in third place with a team score of 749, were led by Carley Nelson, who shot her best round as a Redhawk in the first 18, firing an 85 to lead her to a 12th place finish. Fellow senior Casey Morinelli finished alone in 14th, shooting 186 over her two rounds.
Both teams will be back in action in October.
