TORRANCE, Calif. - The Benedictine University at Mesa softball team couldn't collect a win in the final doubleheader of the regular season on Sunday afternoon, falling to Marymount California, 5-2, 11-3, in California to end their conference season.
Despite matching the Mariners hit for hit in Game 1, the Redhawks were unable to plate any runs until the final inning, thanks to RBIs from Danielle Perez and Avriana Jimenez. However, BenU at Mesa couldn't scratch out anymore runs in the loss.
Perez, Madison Haga and Taylor Clinkaberry each had two hits in Game 1 for the Redhawks.
In Game 2, the Redhawks were unable to recover from a seven-run second inning from Marymount California. BenU at Mesa would score two in the fifth and one in the sixth, but couldn't hold off the Mariners, who scored two in the bottom of the sixth to end the contest early.
Haga had two hits, while Jimenez, Shelby Fisher and Lina Barrera drove in runs for BenU at Mesa in Game 2.
Due to the losses, the Redhawks dropped to the No. 3 seed in the California Pacific Conference tournament. They will open play with the Mariners on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. in Redding, Calif.
